TRIP DETAILS
In order to create a Mirrored Panorama Milky Way over the Salt Flats the conditions have to be perfect! The Salt Flats need to be dry enough for driving and wet enough at this location to give us a Mirror reflection. If we can get those two conditions, this is an AMAZING experience! You get to walk out ON the Milky Way! Seriously, it is a crazy feeling looking down and seeing the Milky Way!

I can promise you that it is an experience you won't ever forget!

If we have inclement weather, we will move to a location that works better IF POSSIBLE and if not we will turn it into a Landscape Photography workshop with the opportunity to learn the location and the techniques while also having fun out on an adventure with our cameras.

Frequently Asked Questions
What do you bring?
Milky Way Photography in June is pretty warm throughout the night, but come ready for anything! This is what I recommend to bring with you:
  • Camera with manual mode
  • Lenses you need are anything from 8mm-50mm and with the largest aperture possible! f1.2 to f3.5 are great options! Bring your 50mm, and anything else you would like. Telephoto lens gigapanos can be great! Just don't forget your widest and largest aperture lenses at home!
  • Sturdy Tripod (REQUIRED!) make sure it is STURDY enough
  • L-Bracket (Optional) - Best for Panorama and switching orientation
  • Focusing Aid (Carson Lumiloupe: https://amzn.to/2lDwFjz)
  • Batteries – Fully charged and at least 2
  • Memory Cards – minimum 2 cards of 32GB each
  • Head lamp (red lamps are not required anymore)
  • Warm outdoor clothing for staying warm during the coldest hours of night and standing in the wind! It shouldn't be uncomfortable at all.
  • Gloves
  • Water Proof jacket & Pants (Optional)
  • Laptop (OPTIONAL) for post-processing (Lightroom & Photoshop)
Flying, Driving & Hotels?
Flying in?
If you plan to fly in, JustFly.com and SkyScanner.com are great sites for Flight Deals. Flying in to Salt Lake City is the best option.
Driving?
Everyone takes care of getting themselves to and from this entire workshop. Renting a car at the airport or driving in from out of state is really easy. From the Salt Lake City Airport the drive is 1.5 hours to the Salt Flats. The pathway there includes the Great Salt Lake and the deserts surrounding the Salt Flats. Drive safe but also enjoy the views!
Hotels?
This is a 1-Night workshop so everyone can choose whether they stay at a hotel or not. Wendover is a great hotel option near the Salt Flats that will give you an easy few minute drive back and forth if you wanted an easy lodging option with lots to do if you enjoy the mini-vegas that Wendover is.
